Notes On "How The Steel Was Tempered" By Nikolai Ostrovsky - A Website
An Introduction
Hello! This is a website I made (am making) as part of an English class project. I like reading and investigating socialist literature quite a bit and I've been getting into web dev for about a year now, so I figured a combination of the two would be a good fit. I also wanted to create something which could be accessible to many people over a protracted period of time rather than a one off project done for a school assignment.
I'd like to note that at the present moment I've only read volume one of two of "How The Steel Was Tempered". I do intend to read the second volume soon and update anything necessary in my writings here. My analyses of the overall novel likely won't be impacted that much by my completion of the series, aside from perhaps my conclusive thoughts, but I still feel it to be important to be upfront and honest about the proper scope of my analysis.
In short "How The Steel Was Tempered" is a novel about the life of the protagonist of the novel, Pavel Korchagin. Particularly his development from a youthful, naive minded, hotblooded young boy into a hardened communist. Giving his entire strength for the communist cause. In addition to this the novel, in some parts more than others, discusses the transformation of Ukrainian society by the socialist revolution and civil war in the former Russian Empire.
